About
Though I was born in Montréal, my formative years were spent learning to speak English and conjugate French verbs at the International School of the Peninsula in Palo Alto, California. In high school, I was heavily involved in FIRST robotics and even spent a year as team leader, for better or worse. These amazing experiences growing up still affect me day-to-day.
A quest for a good computer science school in a big city led me to the University of Washington where I received degrees in computer science and linguistics. While there, I was a teaching assistant for the first programming course, CSE 142, for quite some time and loved it. When I grow up, I want to be a combination of Stuart Reges and Marty Stepp, two amazing lecturers who make difficult topics seem entirely approachable.
I did a short stint at the Grameen Foundation working on an ICTD project. These days, I teach computer science at Garfield High School where I have many fabulous students who keep me on my toes. You can check out my course materials at http://garfieldcs.com. I’m still adapting to being a full time teacher and I go to bed around 9pm every night to recover.
When I have some free time, I read, I hike and I sew. I spend way too much time reading other people’s blogs, listening to podcasts and reading Wikipedia.
